Albert Heijn on Walemstraat in Berchem
Visitor Parking at Albert Heijn Walemstraat
The parking lot at Albert Heijn Walemstraat in Berchem had been struggling with misuse and non-payment for quite some time. The store was looking for a way to make the parking lot available to customers again without having to replace the entire existing system.
Thanks to Alphatronics’ open hardware philosophy, a complete overhaul proved unnecessary. The existing barriers could be retained, while the parking management system was modernized with a FastFlow ticketing system.

A new parking experience, without new barriers
A Miroline kiosk equipped with the FastFlow parking system was installed at both the entrance and exit. This gave the parking lot all the benefits of a reliable parking solution without the need for major infrastructure work.
Upon entering, visitors receive a parking ticket. While shopping, customers have this ticket validated at the register.
When leaving the parking lot, there are two options:
A validated ticket automatically opens the barrier.
An unvalidated ticket is paid for at the exit kiosk, after which the customer can drive out.
This keeps parking simple for customers, while significantly reducing abuse and the prolonged occupation of parking spaces.

The Power of Open Hardware
Not every parking facility needs a complete replacement of its existing infrastructure. Thanks to open hardware, new software can work seamlessly with existing systems.
For Albert Heijn Walemstraat, this meant a future-proof parking solution, without the cost of new barriers or extensive infrastructure work.
A great example of how a retrofit approach combines the best of both worlds: modern parking technology and maximum reuse of existing hardware.
