What is a REST API in access control hardware?

A REST API (Representational State Transfer Application Programming Interface) is a standardized way for software applications to communicate with access control hardware such as card readers, controllers, barrier gates, ANPR cameras and intercom systems. Through a REST API, external applications can retrieve data from or send commands to the access control system.
